10 Things people don't know about me!

Updated: Dec 17, 2023

Hi, I'm Susan! As the founder and maker at Tate Rose Bibs, I love getting to know my customers so would love to share with you a little about myself.

1. I'm a special needs mum. I have 2 children; my son is 18 years old and my daughter 14. My daughter has a chromosomnal disorder with complex needs and has grown up as an 'excessive drooler' which is why I know a lot about special needs dribble bibs and wanted to create some fabulous ones!

2. My career background is in various fields including languages, customer service, public relations and communications and the skills I gained in all these areas help me in my day to day life as a small business owner.

3. Before creating Tate Rose Bibs in 2017, I couldn't even sew! It's amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it and have YouTube! My business and sewing are now my 'escape' from real life!

4. I'm a cancer survivor (touch wood!), having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Cancer gave me the courage to start my own business - you only live once! Having done surgery, chemo and radiotherapy, everything else is a walk in the park!

5. My husband is my number one supporter and rock! We make a great team as a couple and a family. He also annoys the hell out of me sometimes too, ha ha!

6. I love coconut! I love the taste and I love the smell! From shower gel to cocktails and sweets to candles; I cannot get enough of it!

7. I live for my holidays abroad. With a special needs child with medical issues it's scary to go abroad, so generally we go somewhere Spanish as I speak the language, have spent periods living in Spain and I'm passionate about the language and culture. The sun and beach make me feel alive!

8. I love real life programmes: documentaries, fly-on-the-wall series and trashy reality shows. 24 hours in A&E, Louis Theroux, The Family, Geordie Shore, 999 What's Your Emergency?, to name but a few! I really miss Big Brother; sad but true!

9. When I'm not sewing or being a mum, you will find me working as a early years nursery practitioner, volunteering for a local special needs charity and living my best life with friends!

10. My working companion is my lovable Standard Poodle! She snoozes whilst I sew!

Thanks for reading my blog! Let me know your thoughts. Do we have anything in common? Did anything surprise you? I'd love to read your comments.
